The Nurses Professional Working Group (NPWG) is comprised of one to two nurses in clinical and education services from each Member Organisation (MO). The NPWG is focused on the issues surrounding the development of a national sexual and reproductive health (SRH) nurses course. The NPWG is also engaged with policy issues related to an enhanced scope of practice for SRH nurses.
The group continues to discuss scope of practice, the impact of the National Health Care Reform, the removal of a Medicare item number for nurses performing Pap tests on behalf of GP, and the possibility of Implanon insertion and access to training provisions. The ongoing commitment to the continued activities of this group ensures that there is a forum for nurses in MOs to identify and respond to key issues in SRH nursing.
